Season 4, Week 3
Crono
(Chrono Trigger)

The bandanna wearing, mute, spikey-haired swordsman returns this week to battle the Imperial General Celes. Crono's speed is excellent, and he's got both physical and magical power in vast quantities. Luminaire is a deadly powerful magic attack, and Confuse will work well when Luminaire isn't the best option. Crono's also pretty durable, and can take a Flare or two if need be. If Crono can keep Celes on the defensive, he should have this match won.

Having dealt with the quiet ninja Shadow, Celes knows somewhat about 'silent' characters. However, today she faces one that is not only quiet, but truly mute. Crono instead speaks loudly in combat with his powerful Rainbow fueled critical strikes. Should that be averted, the devastating Luminaire invocation can halt even the hardiest Heavy. Celes will have to reach deeply into her satchel of magical trick to challenge Crono, but Imp, Vanish and Flare will all aid her in advancing to the next round.

Dark Holy Elf
It was the night before her second RPGDL match, and Celes was anxious.

"That Crono poses quite the problem," she mused. "Or, more accurately, his Vigil Hat does. Immune to Berserk, Imp, and Muddle... he'll be a difficult one to take down..."

She considered. She could always fall back on her defensive magic and simple attack spells, but that seemed risky. Surely there had to be another way? At times like this, Celes knew what she had to do. She turned to the one person should could trust for advice.

"Granddad Cid? I need your help coming up with a plan..."

The match was about to begin. Crono watched his opponent enter the arena. Oddly, Celes was nothing like what he had expected. She was supposed to be a cold, insensitive fighter. Instead, she appeared strangely cheerful.

"Here!" she said, walking up to him. "Have a fish! It's yummy!"

Crono was confused. Why was she offering him fish? Not that it didn't look appetising...

"I gave these to my granddad when he was sick," said Celes. "They cured him of his illness. Or maybe they didn't, it really depends who you ask. Anyway, since they saved his life, I like to honour that memory by giving them as gifts. You like fish, don't you?"

Crono shrugged, accepting the gift. He noticed, a second too late, that Celes had been wearing gloves as she handed him the fish.

Crono, just touching the fish, suddenly felt violently ill. He fled from the arena.

Celes wore a cruel smile as she accepted her victory by default. "Like I said," she finished, more to herself than to the now-departed Crono. "It depends on who you ask. Maybe the fish saved him... and maybe they killed him."

She brushed away a few quick tears. "Don't worry, Granddad. Your death wasn't in vain, after all..."

Pipe Dreamer
"Sure, he's the Silent Death now, but in a moment he'll be freezing to death! HAHAHAHA!" said Raja as Celes started chanting her Ice 3 spell.

In a curious role reversal, Crono froze to death while Raja was striken dumb thanks to dozens of Mute spells aimed from all around the Arena.

"An altogether more pleasant situation, don't you think?" asked Celes.

MeepleLard
Due to large amounts of debates going on with this match, the judge decided it would be best if they both did a singing Contest.

Crono spent the WHOLE night practicing and he had everything down perfectly. When the match Came, he forgot one little detail: He can't speak. When he tried to sing, nothing came out. He hoped his opponent made another fatal mistake...

Imagine Crono's suprise when he her Celes sing not only her song perfectly, but an entire opera score as is without any problems, and he found out that Celes had a side job as an Opera Star.

Moral of the Story: Cheezy Opera Singers who are Former Imperial Generals > Thunder Based Silent Protaganists. This is almost always the case...well, it should be, its just a comparison that doesn't get applied often enough to consider.

It's a damn shame for Crono that in FF6 you need to be able to talk to cast a spell... hence "mute" stops enemies from using spells. Since Crono is already mute this causes him to lose out on his Illuminaire attack and the match.
