Season 39, Week 4
Alex
(Lunar: Silver Star Story)

With an astounding victory at his back, it's now time to eliminate the last roadblock to the finals on his path, and cutting down the elf Artea will be a much different task than taking down Cless. While Cless fancied himself on pure offensive capabilities, Artea is a defensive fighter, so Alex's strategy will vary a bit this week as compared to last week. Artea's speed will allow the ambiguous elf to get the jump on Alex first turn, but after that, there's little Artea can do to keep the pressure on. Alex's excellent resilience, combined with his elemental resistance and regenerative properties, will allow him to soak up any of Artea's lackluster attacks. Combined with his own Blue Dragon Vigor providing himself with healing abilities, there is no way Artea will be able to take him out quickly. After a couple Vigors, Alex's Sword Dances will be enough to put the man/girl/elf down, easily overwhelming Artea's oft-hyped healing abilities and securing a win.

How do you stop a battle hardened dragonmaster? Lots and lots of healing, of course. Alex is an impressive fighter, resisting several elements and boasting a large skillset to draw from. But the one thing he doesn't have is magical staying power in the arena. Relying on his MP to do everything is a mistake against someone with massive resource pools like Artea does, who can literally heal forever with his cheap Champion spell and the MP restoring IPs on his equipment. Running Alex out of Red Dragon Angers may be on the painful side, but there's no chance of losing that way, since he cannot break through Champion's healing with that on his side. Alex also lacks the ability to resist Zap, Artea's most powerful spell. With a large advantage in speed to help seal the deal and fully let him control the fight with attacks that Alex will have no time to recover from, Artea will have no problems dispatching his foe and securing a spot in the finals.

Ah, the true elven experience.

For Alex, it was an interesting way to attempt to defeat his opponent.

Touring the lands of elves all across the world, to understand what made his opponent tick.

It wasn't hard, really, to understand elves. In fact, Alex, within a few days, felt he understood his opponent so thoroughly that he didn't need to worry at all.

"...Alex. He really is coming to the match." Luna sighed.

"But none of the other elves would even leave home." Alex shrugged. "C'mon, he'll just stay locked up in his room, Luna. I don't even need to go to the arena."

Dragonmaster Alex.

Master of strategy.

And of stereotyping.

Well, he is a hero, so perhaps it's not his fault.

At least Luna extracted a promise from him to just stick to thumping the enemy with swords and dragon powers, when he lost the match by failure to appear.
