Season 46, Week 2
Menardi
(Golden Sun)

Her former Godlike perch coming ever closer, Menardi is readier than ever to keep winning. So Maxim's immune to instant death, you say? That just means it's somewhat of a challenge. Sort of. Between Menardi's stat buffing, devastating physical attacks and magic (and everything else, like being prettier), she won't be stopped. Wave Motion, Brilliance, and all those other diminutive IP attacks are nothing more than fancy little tricks, a way to briefly delay the inevitable. The red-haired little twerp can wave his weapons around all he likes, but when it comes down to it, he just doesn't have enough determination to win. Menardi, however, will make all bow to her might!

Revenge is a sweet word. Maxim's not the type to hold a grudge, but the stinging blow of getting one - just one - Godlike match and losing to Menardi? That's a hard pill to swallow. Through fate (and perhaps a certain recent Godlike champion holding a bitter grudge), Maxim will get a chance to avenge that loss from so long ago. Menardi relies on instant death to win her fights, which is useless against Maxim. What's more, her damage is far less than respectable, leaving her wide open to Maxim's deadly IPs. Wave Motion? Brilliance? All fatal, and all viable options. Outlasting Maxim's not happening, and outdamaging him is as likely as.. well, Menardi champing Godlike a second time.

Menardi isn't damaging enough to prevent Wave Motion abuse. On the other hand, she does have her own buffing and healing which would result in a long and drawn out fight.

Won't do at all.

Two days before the match, the fighters were instructed to find a partner for a team contest. They were not informed what sort of contest it would be, just to bring a partner. Maxim, of course, chose Selan while Menardi brought along a confused Saturos.

"By order of the panel of judges, the match will be held as a waltzing contest." announced Chaz while barely suppressing a volley of laughter. Maxim and Selan smiled at each other while Menardi was less than pleased.
"How undignified." she fumed. "I'm going to kill them." Unlike Chaz, Gafgarion and Lemina didn't bother concealing their laughter though the soundproofing kept those in the arena from hearing them. Menardi was sure Myria was somehow behind this but the only other in the judges' booth was Shadow. A reluctant Saturos restrained Menardi from charging out of the arena, preventing a loss for now.
Maxim and Selan went first. Their grace and elegance awed the audience. Most of it anyways; Profound Darkness was forcibly removed by security for disruptive gagging and Zeromus rushed out claiming illness, among others.
"I'm not going to do this." exclaimed Saturos.
"Why'd you stop me from killing the judges then?" protested Menardi.
"First of all, losing by ring out is more humiliating then forfeit. Second, the bodyguards would get you first." gesturing towards Rydia and an group of mages with enough water and ice magic to flood a desert.
"Well, you're doing this, ugh, dancing. You don't have the authority to forfeit so there."
"No."
"Do it or I torch your Magical Girl Ghaleon doll collection."

The glare Ghaleon gave off promised painful death towards anyone it was directed at. He had the decency to wait until after the match was called before leveling the Proxians with Hell Waves and Nitro Daggers though.

"Thank you, I'll remit your fee to the Hunters' Guild." Chaz nodded toward his client and walked off.
"Mega thanks for the money." Lemina left with her payment.
"..." Shadow collected his fee and left without further speech.
"Was Ghaleon part of the plan?" asked Gafgarion as the client handed over a bag of money.
"No, though it does make my revenge sweeter." replied the cloaked figure. The face of Myria was briefly revealed as she continued. "I'd planned on humiliating Menardi of course but her slip exceeded my expectations. All in all, a satisfying result."
Gafgarion shrugged, "None of my concern. Pleasure doing business with you."
