Season 39, Week 2
Barbarossa
(Valkyrie Profile)

Damn the Valkyrie! His city ruined by the wench and her ghostly warriors, Barbarossa has only one goal: finding a way to meet Lenneth and destroy her, even if he must crush all of Heavy first. He can’t deny that he is eager for this battle, though… as Lawfer is one of the foul warriors who helped her. Guard Reinforce will allow him to endure Lawfer’s blows long enough to bring him down with his powerful, faint causing attacks. Even if the blonde youth can endure that, there is no chance of him surviving the devastating Calamity Blast.

Brawns, brains and beauty… Lawfer has got everything a man could want. Everything except a winning record in the RPGDL, that is. The brave warrior has given everything he had in pursuit of heroic causes, and now he’s ready to give everything to emerge a champion this season. Of course, the road won’t be easy and his first opponent, the ancient king, Barbarossa, is definitely a mean one. Still, all he really has to do is avoid the king's Calamity Blast, which should be relatively easy with the immense power of his PWS, Justice Stream!

Barbarossa vs. Lawfer:

Swish! Clang! The battle between Barbarossa and Lawfer was a fierce one indeed. Every member of the audience was on the edge of his or her seat as the valiant Einherjar slashed away at the twelve-foot-high suit of armor before him. It was a true battle of David and Goliath, as the massive Barbarossa slashed his gigantic sword at the much smaller, more nimble Lawfer. Barbarossa was not able to strike his opponent very often, but when he did, Lawfer certainly felt the effects. Dark red blood seeped out from the joints of Lawfer's armor, but still he fought onward, determined not to disappoint the Lady Valkyrie. He landed blow after blow upon the mighty Barbarossa, but his attacks did not seem to have any outward effects. Was he really damaging the vengeful king at all?

"Ha! Can you endure this fire?" Barbarossa roared as he extended his hand and sent a plume of flame hurtling toward Lawfer. The exhausted Einherjar barely had the energy to roll out of the way of the scorching heat. Barbarossa was upon him in an instant, his enormous sword hurtling downward toward the young man's skull like a comet. Lawfer waited until just the right moment and swung his halberd with all his might. He connected with the side of Barbarossa's blade, deflecting the attack and throwing Barbarossa off-balance just long enough for him to rush forward and unleash his full fury.

Barbarossa did not even have time to recover. With a mighty cry, Lawfer swung his halberd again and again and again, sending the king up into the air and into a torrent of swirling green blades. "Justice Stream!" the Einherjar yelled.

Barbarossa slammed into the ground hard. His strength...it was leaving him. No! It cannot be! Had he exhausted all of his resources already? Had Lawfer defeated him once again? "No! I...I cannot die!" the once-powerful king screamed as his body dissolved in a blinding flash of light.

Lawfer could hardly believe it. Wounded though he was, he had won. He slumped down to his knees, one hand gripping his halberd while he labored for breath. What a glorious accomplishment this was. The last time he had fought Barbarossa, it had taken him, Valkyrie, and two others to defeat the mighty king. And even then, they had been so worn out that they could barely keep fighting when....

A horrifying thought struck Lawfer. That last time...after Barbarossa had been defeated once....

Moments later, the ring was enveloped in another blinding light as Barbarossa reappeared where he had fallen, his armor gleaming in the sun as if it was brand new -- as if it had not sustained any damage at all.

"Ha ha ha..." Barbarossa chortled softly as he leveled his sword at the exhausted Einherjar. "You seem surprised. Don't tell me you've forgotten our last battle."

Lawfer swallowed. He tasted copper.

"Well, I haven't," the newly-revived king snarled. "I haven't forgotten the way that you and that damnable Valkyrie humiliated me. You shall pay for your impudence. Oh yes, you shall pay dearly -- you and the Valkyrie...."

Before Lawfer could even stand upright, Barbarossa was upon him....

Lenneth paused in mid-flight. A faint twinge of pain gripped her chest; she knew right away what had caused it.

"Lawfer..." she whispered into the wind. She knew not what fate had befallen one of her most talented Einherjar, but she knew that this turn of events did not bode well for her.
