Season 56, Week 3
Gau
(Final Fantasy VI)

Everyone's favorite wildboy is still in the game! Having dealt with the most popular spiky headed hero in existence, Gau is sure that squads of fangirls are out hunting for his head right now. But he's not going to let that interfere with his gameplan: Alys will just have to be taken out fast enough to give him time to get away. Fortunately, the deadly Nightshade rage, with its unstoppable charm status as well as the ever handy Veteran with its instant death tricks are always close at hand. And more importantly, both very immune to Alys's instant death shenanigans. All he needs to do is drop into a rage before she can move and the fight is his. Then he can go back to hiding from the FF7 fans.

Alys wouldn't be worthy of being called a Hunter if she couldn't bring in the wild boy Gau. The Veldt Plains? Ha. Child's play compared to the absolutely desolate conditions Alys is used to anywhere on Motavia. It's true that her normal tricks won't work here, unless she gets the drop on him! Given her speed and experience, though, it's all but inevitable. Granted, if he manages to evade her first strike she'll be in a world of trouble... but that's what makes this such an interesting contract! She's still got a pretty impressive resume otherwise, with Foi and Zan skills as well as buffs, though, so it won't be long until Gau is trussed, hogtied and delivered to the Hunter's Guild.

5 second matches aren't good for business. So in their infinite wisdom (?), the organizers arrange an alternate contest.

Contest: Whack-a-Sandworm
Time: 5 minutes
Setup: One Sandworm and eight possible spots for it to emerge. It has invulnerability for the contest. The Sandworm will emerge and disappear from random holes.
Location: Mile Sandworm farm. The holes are rather spread out.
Conditions for Victory: Either hit the sandworm the most times (power does not matter, only number of strikes) or one contestant is KO'ed by the Sandworm in which case the other is declared the victor. Contestants are forbidden from attacking each other.

Well, Gau went into a Rage early on. Given how (badly) berserkers perform against targets which barely stay still, the outcome was inevitable.

As for how such an unfair contest met approval? Grudges are forever and Ghaleon hasn't forgotten when Gau swiped his popcorn back in Season 12.

Gau: 17
Alys Brangwin: 32
