Season 35, Week 4
Yang
(Final Fantasy IV)

Another Wild ARMs dueller gets ready to face Yang of Fabool in combat? What a joke. As if the brutal beating he gave Tim wasn't enough of a blow to the series' collective pride, now he's going to dispatch Jane - and make her look like a total scrub. Status claws and speed that matches hers at worst will make things ugly to start with. Worse is Yang's ability to overcome Jane's What Can You Do? attack. If she has the guts to try that trick, Yang's multi-target Kick ability will teach her the error of her strategy. It's not like she can actually do any notable damage to such a refined, tough fighter as Yang. A little status, a little kicking, and a lot of pummeling. A typical Yang fight, and one that'll have him cruising to the Light finals and a much-deserved upgrade to a division that might give him a challenging fight. Might.

After beating down a joke boss and a little kid, it looks like Jane is finally getting some competition around here - a master monk! ... or not. See, while Jane is sure that Yang's a great duelist, being a karate master and everything, the fact remains that he relies on evadable physicals and attacks that take a long time to charge up. Both of these play right into Jane's strengths, namely her phenomenal speed and evade, and her attack-cancelling What Can You Do technique. With all those factored in, Yang will be lucky if he can even land a hit. Meanwhile, a well-aimed head shot is all that Jane needs to Blow Away the Prince of Fabul with the instant-death properties of her ARM. As the old saying goes: Never bring a so-and-so to a gun fight; you might end up like that swordsman extra in that whip-wielding archaeologist movie.

In RPGs, bare-handed masters are often the most dangerous of foes.

Meanwhile, guns are given to the random grunts, and can shoot you several thousand times. Even PCs with guns are classically outdamaged by those with swords, fists, sticks, origami...the list goes on.

The outcome is obvious, isn't it?

"...what the hell? Jane just blew you up!" A stunned judge Barret bellowed, as he watched Yang burst from the floor of the arena.

"Hah! Just a flesh wound!" "Your &*$%ing arm's up here!" "No, it isn't!" "I have it right here!" 'tis but a scratch!" "...the hell with it. You win."

Yes, that's right.

The only possible outcome was Jane beating the hell out of Yang due to non-gun-related factors, only to have him randomly respawn in the arena a few hours later.

It's the FF4 Temp Way!
