Season 39, Week 1
Elric
(Shining Force 2)

Nothing can quite compare to the magnitude of the battle between Shining Force and Suikoden after Season 37's clash of Jogurt and Zahhak. However, another matchup now occurs between these series - Elric vs. Gabocha! Gabocha is a fierce opponent who learned how to fight from Gengen. But Elric is an expert at survival, as shown by fending off harpies while almost drowning in a lake. Only a hunk of man like Elric could achieve such a feat. With the crossbow and the lady-charmin' skills, Elric is scary himself. Whether he beats him to death with his bow or his legion of fangirls drooling over his bishieness, Gabocha's one dead dog.

Yip yip, hurray! Gabocha has finally gotten his own turn to fight in the arena, and he'll show everyone what a kobold on a mission can do in the Arena. But what is Gabocha's mission, you ask? Why, nothing less then to make it past the first round of Light, just like his hero Gengen did way back in Season 10! Yes, he knows that's a tall order for a young kobold like himself, but the great Gengen never gave up, and neither will Gabocha, his young student! With his steady handling of the mighty Sling Shot!!!, the little kobold who could will bring down even the fearsome elf Elric in a brutal match and strike a blow for all of koboldkind this season!

Elric.

Noble elf.

Facing a small, anthropomorphic puppy.

Such a mismatch.

Many an elf would have become overly haughty and held back, taunting their pitiful opponent.

But not Elric. He would give his opponent the respect of the very highest Light. He would not fall into that trap.

---

Gabocha stared down blankly at the pair of arrows in his shoulder.

Then fainted.

Elric stood still, stunned.

He'd done such a good job of convincing himself that Gabocha would be a worthy opponent, that he'd double criticaled him. Such a quick conclusion stopped him in his tracks, for a moment.

In fact, he was so stunned that he didn't even think to dodge the stone that smashed into his forehead, knocking him cold.

Ultimately, the judges decided in Gabocha's favor-after all, his attack clearly had been launched first, or he never would have gotten it off.

Besides, he's cuter. And, with Duelling League judges, you know that's probably the bigger factor.

Elric: 23
Gabocha: 24
