Jewel sails into the next round with a handy win over the poor, defenseless gardener-girl Mariel. Now that the body's been tossed overboard and the proper victory shanty has been sung, it's time for another round in the arena! This time, Jewel's opponent doesn't exactly lack in offense, but just the same, Estella is a spellcaster and still pretty much defenseless. Estella is a strong mage, yes, but Jewel's healing charges outnumber Estella's strong magic charges, with everything else sort of falling by the wayside. All Jewel needs to do is play it safe, not rock the boat, and it's another victory and off to the semi-finals!

Estella has a brand new victim for her pyromaniac experiments! She's ready to put her Rage Rune to use against an upstart tomboy who certainly doesn't know who she's messing with. Jewel has a Water Rune to fend off Estella's magic, but she certainly isn't afraid. Unlike Estella, Jewel has dismal magical prowess, and she can't even cast Silent Lake with that shoddy Water Rune of hers. Estella, however, has plenty of charges, and can deplete Jewel's healing in no time if she goes that route. And any other way will get the boyish soldier girl charred like a barbecue. Foolish girl, trying to meddle with mighty magicians.

Estella wasn't an idiot. Despite preferring fire herself, she knew damn well what a water rune could do to her. And she knew that this Jewel was yet another Sword and Spell water runer who specialized in wrecking mages, just like Beecham, Kyle, Sigurd and others. No, far better for her to just stay home and enjoy some nice wine then embarrass herself by trying to fight against Silent Lake.

Jewel stared at her "opponent". She was supposed to be fighting some awesome mage, but instead here was a dorky kid with a broom? What was that all about? Looking over to the judge's table, she just got a shrug and a thumbs up from Tir. Apperently she was in fact supposed to be fighting this kid.
Thirty seconds later, Jewel was using her water rune to pick Rody back up off the ground and wondering why he never actually attacked her.
Though even that was nowhere near as confusing as why Estella would pass up the chance to fight one of the few water rune users incapable of casting Silent Lake...
