Season 22, Week 1
Kent
(Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword)

Always ready to fight for Liege and Land, the commander of Caelin’s knights will be making the most of his appearance in the Duelling League. His first opponent is Hrist Valkyrie, another Warrior unconditionally devoted to her Lord and homeland. Given her condition, unfortunately, a match against Hrist won't quite be the epic duel Kent might have hoped for. No matter; Kent must win this match, for to do any less would betray the trust bestowed in him by Lady Lyndis, and doing this is something he is simply incapable of.

The eldest of the three Valkyrie sisters enters the arena once again in her eternal quest to collect Einherjar, upgrade to Godlike, and defeat Brahms. It's no trivial task: first she must cut through the hordes of foolish mortals and foul creatures in the lower ranks, and Hrist Valkyrie is infamous for her lack of combat prowess. Her first opponent, being an honorable and brave Paladin, makes excellent Einherjar material. Hrist's chances of defeating him are remote, but her sheer determination might be enough for her to best the Knight Commander in combat and make him her loyal slave.

Ah, Kent. Reasonably fast, reasonably strong, absorbs punishment nicely, master of the weapon triangle, and counterattacks. It's a nice mix; in fact you have to wonder why the guy's in Light at all.

This doesn't change the fact that Kent wins this week by not being Hrist. Oh well, maybe Kent will draw someone worthy of his Middle-calibre powers next round.

Kent: 48
Hrist Valkyrie: 16

Kent is a noble knight. As such, he is skilled with many weapons. In short, he's competent if not stellar, a warrior of basic note.

Hrist is a goddess of Valhalla, one of the sacred Valkyries. By millenia of work and practice, her swordsman ship is without mortal match.

This should be easy in theory, except for one thing: Hrist - sucks -. Sometimes a lifetime of training is no good if you're just plain crappy. Go Kent!

RNG. These three letters, used in sequence and properly capitalized, are both the dread and hope of anyone from the many worlds of Fire Emblem. They are very much akin to an incarnation of God in that world, though the parallels to the mythical d1000 are unmistakable.
In some fashion, news was had that Kent, brave Commander of the Knights of Caelin, would be fighting this day. And so the mighty RNG responded, rolling his fate.
The results were not as expected.
The battle starts, Kent raises his blade and charges his foe, intent upon a swift victory.
He misses.
Hrist charges forward in turn. Destiny's dance is made again. The great d1000, slumbering since the ancient days of Serge's Godlike victory, rolls. The RNG rolls again in turn, confirming the results. They were true.
Hrist has achieved the unthinkable, scoring 4 natural 20s and the almighty 1000.
Any one of these events would make no difference, for such is the weight against Hrist, but taken together, there is but one result.
Time and space alter, and for one shining moment, in the midst of Nibelung Velesti, her pathetic blade is replaced with a Glance Reviver.
And at long last, a new Einherjar was had for the eldest sister governing fate.
