Season 15, Week 1
Porom
(Final Fantasy IV)

Silence is golden, or so the old adage goes. A respectful child such as the White Mage Porom would understand and obey such words, making for a highly ironic battle. You see, the casting of Porom's Silence spell is the bane of a mage like her opponent, and it is more than enough to stop the volley of mystical might Mia Ausa will try to manhandle the child with. With that simple spell, the adult is now the one consigned to silence and a sound spanking, proving that irony exists even in the pit fights of the RPGDL.

The leader of the Magic Guild in Vane is fighting a mere apprentice white mage this week, but they have similar strategies; blast the enemy with magic until they die. Unfortunately, Porom's Silence spell could very well throw a wrench in this seemingly straightforward match. With Porom's completely awful defense, though, even a good swing from Mia’s Wind Cane could knock the young girl out. Hitting small children with canes may not be exactly nice, but the little brat probably deserves it.

Porom and Mia were both feeling pretty confident about their matchup. Porom because her opponent was a pure mage and could be easily shut down; Mia because her opponent was a healing mage with nothing that comes close to decent damage. And when the match finally started, it went something like this.

Porom: Before we start fighting, there's something I want you to know.
Mia: What's that?
Porom: I've been leveling up recently.

Mia shrugged and blew herself up with a Flame Bomb spell that hit Porom's Reflect.
And then got vaporized by Porom's Holy.

The moral of this story: Dropping huge flaming swords on your opponents' heads is one way to get ahead in life, but it's hard to argue with a spell that makes you virtually immune to magic. Unles you have defense-piercing spells or decent physical attacks, which Mia didn't.

Porom: 33
Mia Ausa: 23
