Beating up old women may not seem like the most noble pasttime for an RPG hero, but when you're in the cadre of Shining Force Lights...well, you've gotta start somewhere, right? Of course, Hellion's far from a harmless old biddy, but Luke's got a couple advantages right from the get-go: high speed and flight. The former lets him attack before the frail mage can cast Copper Flesh, and get hits in between later castings, and the latter will give him the needed mobility to not get hit so easily by the giant boulders of Hellion's Earthquake. With these two details in mind, all Luke has to fear is the dubious honor of cutting a poor old hag to pieces.

The wise, gentle and mighty Hellion may have been downed by an obliviously enraged Chisato many seasons ago, but much has changed since that fateful match. Hellion's old age and brittle bones may give the impression of someone frail, but one casting of her Copper Flesh spell renders the sorceress immune to all forms of damage! Luke's attempts to shear off Hellion's flesh will be fruitless and vain, all while she rains deadly boulders from heaven with Earthquake (and doubt not, children, a bird dies as fast as anything else after hit by giant boudlers). Very little can stop an old lady with the power of the land on her side, and this pathetic bird soldier doesn't have what it takes.

You know, things that fly, like Birds such as Luke, tend to be immune to Earth elemental attacks, which is what Hellion thrives upon. I mean, look at all the proof!
In Final Fantasies, the Float status grants immunity to the Quake spells.
In Pokemon, the Flying types are immune to the Ground attacks
Breath of Fire games, flying enemies take reduced damage from Earth attacks, if not outright null it.
Even in Suikoden games, Hellion's home series, fliers are able to totally null out the mighty Earthquake.
...one wonders how bad you have to be to lose to a Suikoden Earth Mage when the above logic is completely on your side.
Luke: 25
Hellion: 58

Luke... he wins just because he didn't even get his own argument for his battle.
He may be a SF2 dud, but he did take down the Kraken with Peter, pretty much by themselves in SF2, simply because they were the only flying units.

No dudes Luke flies.
