Season 47, Week 1
Blank
(Final Fantasy IX)

Poor, simple Blank. He tries so hard but it doesn't even matter. At least, the DL Light Division gives him a shot. His opponent Soren is a mage, and while Blank's never had very much luck against parlor tricks, be it getting turned to stone or otherwise, Soren isn't quite the highest tier of mage the DL has to offer. In fact, Blank's overwhelming mediocrity just might be his ticket to win in this match! He gives up nothing except magic power to Soren, and who needs magic when you're going to split a poor bishie's head open with a sword? It'll be the start of something big for Blank, and lucky him, it's free hat day at the arena. It's time for the crowds to pull them down over their eyes and start cheering for a winner.

Despite being highly learned in magic, likely among the best spellcasters in his world, Soren is, rather shockingly, not within his element in the Duelling League. The cyclone-summoning Sage is a pureblooded strategist at heart, best suited to figuring out how best to outflank enemy troops rather than blowing them into next week himself. Then again, Soren's also landed himself in Light, and losing to the hilariously inept denizens of that division just won't do for a Greil Mercenary. His first foe, Blank, is little more than a punching bag even by the standards of Light, leaving Soren with an easy trip to the next round. But that just means much more time to plan against his following opponents, so you certainly won't find Soren complaining.

To his credit, Blank has far more sense than Zidane. He clearly notices that Soren is a male, and neither hits on him or calls him a tranny. He just grabs his sword and starts hacking away as best he can. Unlike Zidane, he has nothing besides his (really bad) physical, making him a rather notably bad light. Soren's magic peels of Blank's hide faster than it takes Cinna to get laughed at in a bar. To Blank's infinite uncredit, he is Blank and got punked down by an FE prettyboy. He won't be hitting it off with the ladies tonight, that's for sure.
