Season 56, Week 1
Thomas
(Suikoden III)

A new season brings with it new chances! The same is true for Thomas, the lord of Budehuc castle. Unlike most Tenkai Stars, the young lad has no True Rune to claim as his own. Even so, he has always endeavoured to be optimistic about his situation. You won't ever see this swordsman down at heel! The first stage on which to prove his mettle is favorable to Thomas: his opponent, swordsman Randi from Secret of Mana, has no tricks beside physical attacks. Where the lord of Budehuc lacks in True Rune powers, he more than makes up for it in swordsmanship. And, if nothing else, Cecile is very much confident on her lord's ability to make do in this fight! Thomas himself... well, he's gonna do his best, as it'll be more than enough.

The Mana Knight's up for another encounter in the arena, eh? Can he get a waiver on that? Last night was crazy... No? Fine, fine. Randi's been out for a while, but that won't stop him for giving his all in this fight, naturally. And his first opponent is... a child ruler of a castl- ohgodnot Puri- wait, it's not Purim. Phew. Nevermind Purim's father, it's obvious who wears the poofy pants there. Anyways, this... Thomas... is apparently a Tenkai star, which are famed for magi- ohgodnot magic to the fa- wait, he's a swordsman? Sweet! With a swift cut there, a charged hit here, and a jumping cut all over, he'll bring down Thomas without too many hassles, tanking what hits he needs to prove he's one of the best swordsmen in the land! Just... no photography or magic, please.

Purim facepalmed as Randi lunged at Thomas, who simply sidestepped with a bemused expression. "Uh... aren't you supposed to be the Hero of Mana-"

"SHUT UP!" Randi bellowed, swiping at Thomas ineffectually. "I'm good at swordfighting! You're just - argh, stand still!"

"... I think you're good at, uh, beating people up with a sword." Thomas said carefully, before, "Definitely better than me, I mean, don't get me wrong, but... you don't know how to use it for defense? Kinda? I'm sorry, but... really, who taught you?"

"I had to teach myself!" Randi bellowed, trying a jumping slash and getting spilled onto the arena floor for his troubles. Thomas sighed. "Ah. Juan taught me, and he's one of the best fighters I know. So... yeah. Sorry." Holding his blade to Randi's neck, "I win. Good luck next time you get in!"
