Season 17, Week 5
Izlude Tingel
(Final Fantasy Tactics)

Even the cursed touch of Lich couldn't slow the fearless Shrine Knight. Finally reaching the finals after three painful losses, Izlude Tingel can finally shine and shed his bonds of shame and misery that have marked his DL career. Amusingly enough, his final match of the season is perhaps his easiest. A simple Weapon Break shatters Yuffie's ability to do anything approaching damage, and an Armor Break turns her normally fearsome healing into a mild annoyance easily laughed off. Once the dishonorable thief falls, Izlude's ascent shall be complete and his legacy of shame erased, forgotten just as the foes who once stood in his way.

Three descendants of ancient and powerful races had faced the Materia thief of Wutai, and all three have fallen to her mighty skills. Now all that remains for Yuffie is to smack Izlude back to Ivalice and claim her Middle championship. While the Knight Blade’s countering ability is a thing most duellers fear, the speedy ninja’s long-ranged Conformer (a weapon that equals a full-powered Ultima Weapon in strength) will easily get around that little hassle. And if the Shrine Knight trainee somehow gets a lucky Weapon Break in, the Crystal Swords that Yuffie can chuck with the Throw Materia will quickly make mincemeat of Izlude’s remaining HP.

SageAcrin
Poor Yuffie.

She'd found out about Izlude's tricks; namely, equipment breaking, a long time before the match.

So, naturally, she'd went out to pick up some weapons to throw.

With Yuffie, however, "picking up weapons" basically means trying to steal them from the dumbest people around.

She'd picked up a Spirit Sword, Ultima Weapon, Dekar Blade, Swordian Dymlos, Detonate Arrow(Not that she could throw bows, but it was too easy to pass up.), Mana Sword, Earthbreaker, Eternal Sphere and Nemesis Fan, before she made what was probably one of her worst mistakes ever.

You see, as Yuffie was perusing other people's rooms, she happened to glance in on Gilgamesh.

As he was putting away his own Zantetsuken. He couldn't use it, legally, in the Duelling League, but he still kept it in top condition.

And he was an infamous putz. So, Yuffie waited for him to take a nap, and tried to swipe it.

Unfortunatly, Gilgamesh isn't actually as stupid as he looks, amazingly enough....okay, he is.

But he's actually quite observant, despite that....okay, so Yuffie was so stunned by the sight of Zantetsuken she stood outside the window for a few seconds longer than she should.

The point is, errors compounded.

And the match was called because Yuffie failed to show up.

Actually, in reality, she had shown up, but she didn't bother correcting the error.

Miniature frogs don't fight well anyhow.

If I recall correctly, Izlude has the Counter skill set as his reaction. In other words, Catch seems like it isn't even a remote possibility. As it turns out, however, Izlude actually does know the skill... It's just that catching a hilt with your hand is much more effective as a defensive maneuver than catching a blade with your face.
