Season 19, Week 2
Charizard
(Pokémon Series)

The last of Professor Oak's three most prized pets makes his League debut after Venusaur and Blastoise both fell to the Middle champion last season, and his thoughts are on proving the power of his kind in Middle. Cid Highwind is a worthy first opponent for the firey pseudo-dragon, but also one that matches up very well for the pokemon. Flamethrower, Slash, Fire Spin, you name it: the speedy and powerful Charizard has every flavour of damage you could want, and it will easily see him past any of Cid's remotely dangerous limits. Middle is ablaze this season as wielders of fire abound, and Charizard intends to prove that it's his flame that burns brightest!

Good news, bad news time for Cid Highwind in this match. The good news is that he wouldn't need to bring a lighter; his opponent being a, well, being of fire as well a natural gentleman, he should have no problem lighting up Cid's smokes for him. The bad news? Cigarette's won't be the only thing Charizard's looking to light up! Thankfully, Cid's too ()&@*ing tough to get bothered by this. Hauling out his Venus Gospel for a few painful strikes should be enough to kill the fire starter. Win, lose, or draw, expect Cid to look tough, fight hard, and kick as much ass as he always does.

Jo'ou Ranbu
You know, this match could have been normal. It could have been just two Middle contenders busting out their best skills.

But Cid not only was very loud in the day, he was also very drunk. When he went to fight against Charizard, he just returned from a bohemian rhapsody with Kain Highwind, who kept blabbering about mastering dragons and flying with the wind (you don't want to see Dragoons drunk. Really). Cid, being somewhat of a Dragoon imitator, didn't really have the sensibility to realize his actions wouldn't end up very well. But, when you're drunk, riding on a fire-breathing winged lizard in the middle of an arena while screaming obscenities looks as good an idea as anything else. And so he did. Charizard didn't take it lightly.

Unsurprisingly, it took a couple of tranquilizer darts from the Duelling League Emergency Sniper Squad to stop the madness. And since Charizard was the only one awake in the arena afterwards, he was declared the winner by default.
