Season 19, Week 5
Kanon
(Wild Arms 2)

Aisha Bernadette has finally the finals, but now she faces perhaps her toughest challenge yet. Odessa is everything she hates in an opponent rolled into one mean package: With magical offense, decent physical durability, and speed that nearly matches hers, it appears that the rebel leader has this championship in the bag. But it would be a mistake to count Kanon out; by keeping the pressure on Odessa with her crippling techs, she can force her to the defensive. Once Kanon stores enough FP, a Gat Eagle Claw will finish the Silverberg in one blow, sending her to the grave once more.

Odessa Silverberg survived many ordeals this season - generals, lizards, flaming vampire superheroes all were overwhelmed by the rebel's spirit and Wind Rune. Her final challenge will be just as fierce and relentless as her previous ones, as the mercenary Kanon will attempt to overwhelm Odessa with her blistering speed and the might of her Gats. But Odessa still has the edge; being almost as fast as Kanon, the Silverberg can stall the match with Wind of Sleep whenever she needs to heal. With this winning strategy, the Middle belt is as good as Odessa's.

*Four hours before the match.*

"Hmmmhm. Just a little more preparation, and I'll-OW!" Brey said, as Crowley walked into his room, unnoticed, and smacked him upside the head with his staff.

"No. You are not interfering with the Middle finals. No. This is not happening, I'm not allowing you to do something stupid again." Crowley said.

"But she made a fool of you!" "No, you made a fool of me by not giving me all the information." Crowley said, glaring. "At any rate, you're the only one that anyone would connect that spell to anyhow. I can't say I'm fond of Odessa...or Kanon, for that matter, considering our past, but..."

"Hmhmhm. I thought I'd find you two here." Ursula said, walking into the room. "I need your help."

"If it's about charming those two, no." "Oh, please. I don't want something that tacky." Ursula said with a sigh.

"What I want is to point out who those two have crossed on the way up. You, myself, Lucca Ashtear, Brey in an indirect manor. All powerful mages."

"So?" "So, we use this." Ursula said, pulling out a dusty tome.

"What..." Crowley said, opening the book and paging through it, at a gesture from Ursula. "...How...how did you get this?" "Does that matter? The point is, the four of us, if we can talk Lucca into it, should be able to use it."

"Hmmm. Lucca's a bit of a loon, though, it's hard to tell what she's going to do..."

*One hour later.*

"No. It's just not my style, you two. Is there anything else?" Lucca said, slightly impatiently.

"Just a moment." Crowley said, pulling Brey to one side. "Well," He whispered "looks like the plan's off." "There's more than one way to charm a la-" "You're not using the spell." "...fine. Well, we could get her drunk."

"What!?" Crowley yelled, then quickly modulated his voice back to a whisper. "I know you're perverted, but not only does this show a incredible lack of taste on your part, and I doubt you could do anything with her even if she did accept you when she was drunk, but this has absolutely nothing to do with the plan."

"...I...ah...don't know what you mean. I just meant that we could try to get her drunk and get her to remember how much losing annoyed her. Maybe it could work..."

"...you want a drunken teenager casting a spell?" "Well, the worst that could happen is that it doesn't work, right?" "Or destroys the Arena..." "So we're nowhere near the arena." "...hmmm. A point. I know there's some flaw here, Brey, but I can't think of one." Crowley said, sighing. "Alright."

"Miss Lucca, we do have some questions about one of your inventions." Crowley said politely. "But all this talking has made me thirsty. Shall we go out some place?"

"Alright. But don't even bother trying to talk me into that stupid trick again, you hear me?" Lucca said, glaring...

*Two hours later.*

"*Giggle.* This is going to be fun, isn't it?" Lucca said, weaving on her feet while looking off a observation tower at the distant Duelling League arena.

"...this isn't going to work." Ursula said, eyeing Lucca.

"And if it doesn't?" Crowley said, shrugging. "We couldn't get her to do it sober, so we're as bad off either way."

"Well...I don't suppose it matters. I hope it doesn't. Everyone into positions."

*One hour later.*

"Well, I made it here, after all this time of not being recognized at all." Odessa said, smiling. "Even if I lose, I have no regrets. Let's go, Kanon."

Kanon started to respond, then stopped, her cybernetic eye sensing something unusual.

Then her jaw dropped, and the people of the arena saw Kanon doing the last thing any of them expected.

Running. She ran as fast as possible to one of the arena walls and dived to the floor.

Odessa started to open her mouth to speak.

Then a massive gash of blackness appeared in the air over the Arena.

Before Odessa could so much as glance up, a massive pillar of flame erupted out of the rift, blasting a burning, quite dead, Odessa out of the arena to land halfway through a tree several miles away.

Kanon, amazingly, managed to struggle to her feet, due to being out of the direct blow. Most of the crowd wasn't so lucky, as flames engulfed half the arena. The battle was very clearly over.

"...my...god. That's incredible." Crowley said, stunned.

"The power to alter reality at a point. How the hell did you get this book, Ursula?" Brey said, openmouthed.

"When you ask about the shadow people and dark weaponry, you learn a few things. People like Lilith Aileron or CommonMec, weapons like the Gradius or the Skull Rod. Things that should not exist anywhere, but do, or things that do exist, but should have greater powers." Ursula said. "If you study the world long enough, you can find out about these things, and how to reach them. When you do, it is but a small step from there to shattering all laws of this world."

"...But where did you find the book?" Crowley said, puzzled. "I...ah....it...just showed up." Ursula said, flushing slightly. "In my room. I know no one could have placed it in there, I make very sure no one can come into my room uninvited..."

"So, you pried into the dark secrets of the universe, and someone who can break the laws of the universe placed a book in your room, knowing that you'd know how to use it...why do I have the feeling this was all planned?" Crowley said, frowning...

Lucca giggled, sill concentrating heavily. The other three had ignored her up to this point, but...

"Wait, the rift hasn't closed. What is she doing!?" Ursula said, rushing over to a pair of binoculars to look...

As a massive being emerged from the rift.

Perhaps being isn't quite accurate. However, neither is machine...

"I always wanted to make one of those!" Lucca said, giggling again as she looked through a pair of binoculars at what she had created.

"...that...what is that?" Brey said, stunned.

"Pringer X." Ursula and Crowley said in unison, watching the massive Prinny robot bash down a wall, as the frightened crowd rushed out of the arena or prepared for battle.

"...well, what do we do now?" Brey said. "I...don't know about you, but I don't think I have enough magic power to make another rift like that..."

"We leave. We tell no one ever about this, we make sure Lucca never gets drunk again in her life, and we make it so this never happened." Ursula said.

"Agreed." Crowley said, unable to tear his eyes off the spectacle of Kanon getting flung several thousand feet into the air by a giant prinny robot.

"...And, all things considered, I think this went well." Crowley said, as he walked off to the elevator...

---

"And that will teach them to doubt my status as the supreme overlord of the Duelling League." Jogurt said, smiling down at the carnage.

"Ahem. Shouldn't you be thanking me?" Lezard Valeth said nearby. "After all, I did give them the book...and, when you think about it, did everything important."

"You will be rewarded when the time comes..." "Which is never, since no one knows you had anything to do with this, and that you did nothing important, and I mostly just did it to see...well, that." Lezard said, pointing at Lucian, who was having his head slammed into an arena wall by the massive robot. "I knew he wanted to see this match. I could care less about your promised rewards, they'll never come through."

"What!? I..." "Oh, go get drunk with Hrist, and leave me to enjoy myself." Lezard said, laughing...
