Rare indeed is it that Alma must fight offensively rather than defensively, but this appears to be one of those fights. Alma's high defences and evasion should adequately shield her from Marle's pathetic status attacks, meaning she's best to optimise for speed and power here. After that, it's a simple matter of Hasting herself and blitzing her low-HP opponent with Ultimas before Marle can hope to turn the battle in her favour with her own Haste and healing.

With her status magic and weapons made useless by Alma's Ribbon, and her already pathetically weak attacks made even worse by the powerful defences her foe boasts, one might think that Marle doesn't stand a chance. However, Marle is better set up for a battle like this than one might realise. With her powerful Haste spell, Marle can keep up with Alma, if not surpass her, and with her cheap healing and Ice spell, she can stay in the battle for a long time. Even better, Alma relies very heavily on her MP, and uses it up quickly, making her unsuited for the long battles Marle thrives on.
