Season 39, Week 4
Lich
(Final Fantasy)

So a flaming, kickboxing chicken wants to square off against the original Fiend of Earth? Fine by Lich. But what's that you say? This chicken has the power of fire, Lich's only real weakness, on it's side? And it can resist the power of Ice, which is Lich's best damage? Well, Hold that thought for a moment, would you? A casting of Hold against the chicken's subpar magic resistance should pin it in place long enough for Lich to follow up with either his still quite potent Bolt 2 spells or his paralysis inducing, Fast boosted physicals. If Blaziken thinks a simple 'type advantage' is going to win him this fight, it's about to get a very rude awakening.

It is time for to answer one of many of life's mysteries through use of a battle! That being what came first, the Chicken or the Egg? Granted, the egg wasn't available so we had to use an undead warlock who happens to be the original earth fiend instead, but hey, same thing, right? I mean, it's not like they're too different; both are offwhite and crack under the slightest pressure. Well, it also happens that this bony old Earth Fiend happens to be weak to Fire, and chickens, as we all know, often breathe fire to destroy their opponents! Needless to say, this match is firmly in the favor of the fiery boxing chicken, and not the comparative egg.

Blaziken.

A creature with the weight of cliches against him.

A chicken who, by his very nature, feared his own power, at least on some level.

Clearly Lich would have no trouble preying on the fears of such a simple creature.

At least, that's what he thought, right up until he entered the arena.

As he approached the Pokemon, however, a nagging feeling he was forgetting something kept tickling the back of his mind.

Just as the battle officially started, he remembered, in a horrific chain of blanked out memories.

You see, Blaziken wasn't the only one with the weight of cliches against him.

As Blaziken's foot hurtled towards Lich's face, he remembered his own cliches.

Undead fear both fire and martial artists...

Lich: 22
Blaziken: 41

With Grand Master in hospital, the rest of the 'gang' decided to watch Lich's next match, against the ridiculous looking kickboxing chicken that just so happened to be on fire...

... Yeah, that's perfectly normal. Anyway, the three were quite divided over the winner.

"Well," began the nerd once known as Fighter, "It's all a matter of speed. Blaziken's obviously nimble enough, he'll be able to dodge any of Lich's spells, launch enough fire at Lich to burn him to crisp, and while Lich is thrashing about in flames, Blaziken can simply run towards Lich and er, to put it in common words, 'kick the crap' out of him."

White Mage scoffed, "Oh come on, Fighter, don't you see it? Blaziken won't be able to move anywhere, Lich'll Hold 'im before the chicken can say 'bawk!' Then just a little bit of lightning and Kentucky Fried Blaziken for dinner!"

Thief shook his head, "Well, I bet HEAPS of money on Lich, because although it could go either way, I think the Hold spell miiiiight just pull through... Oh well, I suppose it is kinda Grand Master's money, so I've got nothing to lose!"

So in the end, this match is one to remember.!
Will the Hold Spell... er... Hold Blaziken back,
or will Blaziken get to Lich first?
