While he'd love to jump back up to Heavy immediately, Light Champion Jet must first face the ancient robot, Zynk, in his return to Middle. Zynk possesses a deadly combination of high stats in pretty much every area across the board, essentially trumping the drifter in every category save perhaps speed. And if Jet's evasion begins to be a problem, Zynk can always show off his mighty chest laser, a crowd-pleasing burst of energy that cannot be denied, be it by defense or by evasion. With most of the advantages on his side, this relic of a bygone era is set to put an end to Jet's drifting. Permanently.

The powers of the Argetlahm are not to be trifled with - after all, Jet, wielding his machinegun blade, conquered Light, no? In Middle, sounds like things won't be much different, especially considering he's going up against a worthless trashcan. Zynk is slow and unwieldy, and even his defenses won't help much against the deadly bullets of the Argetlahm. To make matters worse, Jet has decent evasion to outright negate the clumsy swipes of the robot - who won't withstand a high-FP Gatling at all. All in all, this fight won't be much better than the fail-offs handled by the Drifter in Light, so this should be a cinch.

For all that he still outwardly looked as emo as he'd ever been, Jet was actually feeling pretty good lately. A championship, even in Light, and the subsequent upgrade out of that lame division is a great way to boost the mood, even for those who make a career out of being surly. And now that he had a match in...yeah, he'll admit it, the division he belonged in, Jet wasn't about to let anything spoil his high. Like, say, loosing. Or the nagging of well meaning friends.
"Jet...um, I'm all for practice making perfect, but you've been at the range here for six hours today. On top of the six yesterday. And the day before that. Come on, you've got to take a break."
Jet shook his head as he fired off another round into the latest target that Worker 8 had set up for him, "Not a chance, Opera. I'm not losing my first match back. I'm not going back to that pool. No way in HELL am I going back to Light."
Opera laughed, "Come on, Jet, it's just Zynk. He's about as threatening to you as a spare tire. You've got this."
Flipping the saftey on his ARM for a second, Jet stopped his training long enough to turn and fix Opera with a flat stare, "You really just said that? Hey, I wonder how many of those jokers I gunned down last season thought 'hey, it's just Jet. I've got his number, no need to get worked up about it'? If even one did, then that was a free win for me. Look, sure Zynk is some rusty old robot who hasn't been in since season 3 and nobody really cares about at all, but that means he's got as much on the line as I do. He doesn't want to go to Light, and he needs to go on a run to get some respect. He's gonna come at me with everything he's got, and I'm just making sure I do the same."
Listening to her partner's little speech, Opera actually smiled, "You've gotten really serious, haven't you? Alright, do what you need to do, but don't push yourself so much that you aren't a hundred percent for the match, alright? You're not that great at knowing your own limits, y'know."
Scowling, Jet pointed over to Worker, "Yeah, yeah, don't worry. The bucket of bolts over there will stop me if I do too much."

Meanwhile, in the Shining Force locker room...
Bowie frowned at the robot who was doing nothing more then sitting around watching kung-fu flicks, "Uh, Zynk? Don't you have a match tomorrow? Shouldn't you be out, I dunno, shaking off the rust? Get back into the groove of things, practice a little?"
Zynk didn't even pause the movie, just laughed, "For who, Jet? The double downgrader? I'll walk all over him. I'm just glad my return to action starts with such an easy win, really. I'll start practicing next week, when I get a real opponent."
Bowie didn't quite believe what he was hearing, but couldn't do much except sigh and shrug, "Well, good luck with that. Hope it won't be another forty-five seasons before you get in again..."
"Huh, you say something Bowie?"
"I said good luck...you're gonna need it..."
