Season 56, Week 1
Max
(Shining Force)

After his rather startling lack of success in the DL so far, Max is going to have to do better to represent himself and his game. Luckily, he's up against a mere Fire Emblem character this time, albeit a boss (which may actually not help). They're both hard-hitters, but Max is lucky here, as he's from one of the few games that can counter Fire Emblem moves without actually being Fire Emblem. Both are also members of rather rebellious groups, but there's one key difference between Max and Ursula's merry bands. Max's riffraff was ultimately successful, Ursula's was not. Life shall imitate art here, with Max succeeding yet again where Ursula shall always fail.

Black Fang member Ursula is hardly a souless individual in spite of her name. She knows fighting for the sake of people can involve a few ugly deeds, but she hoped Max, a rebellion leader, could understand this - as he himself had to trample more than a few good men to topple the evil empire. However, it seems his silence says otherwise, and they will be doomed to fight. But no matter - Ursula has the magical prowess necessary to handle this emotionless warrior. With a few castings of Elfire, easily bypassing Max's physical defenses, Ursula will subjugate him in a conflagration and go on ahead, proving how ugly this little world can be.

Arenas come in all kinds of shapes and sizes in the DL. From the standard colloseum types, to the theme ones for all the odd requests the judges inexplicably accept, to the high security ones, for when a match is going on that no one wants the DL jokers to interrupt. So, while it's no surprise that there's arenas that can swallow a few football fields as you need something Myria can fit in, it is a little more surprising when you have a match between two middles taking place in one of them.

Seems Ursula had managed to convince the judges that the best type of match between herself and Max, as leaders of armies, was to have them lead their armies in a big battle. And after getting it approved, made sure that Max conveniently ever told. After all, bad guys don't ever play fair. And as expected, Max showed up, just on time, all by himself, ready to be taken apart by Ursula's army. What Ursula forgot was that all the rest of the Shining Force had nothing better to do than sit around until Max needed them, and that the little room they hung out in had exits everywhere, including apparently DL arenas.
