Season 26, Week 2
Aila
(Suikoden III)

Sweet, bubbly, and generally innocent girl of the Karaya, Aila returns to the Duelling League, ready to take on all comers and prove the pride of her clan. And who else to prove her worth but Pahn, noted hero of the Gate Rune wars? Of course, Aila isn't really versed in history, so Pahn's legend, such as it is, would be lost on her; on the other hand, he still makes for a tough opponent with Boar Rune at the ready. But with some pinpoint archery, the Shield Rune's healing and a well-placed Earthquake, Aila's more than ready to bury this soldier and secure the first step on the road of victory.

Many seasons had passed with his name never being called, but at long last, the final member of the McDohl household enters the DL Arena. His fists and feet of fury ready and willling, Pahn is preapred to go all out against... a little girl? What? Well, whatever. Even if she is innocent and light-hearted, Pahn will show no quarter against her, not in his debut fight. With his martial finesse and Boar Rune, he will quickly take down his opponent, and even leave him with more than enough time to go home and enjoy his dinner.

You know, these two are fairly similar.

Both are...relatively normal (Not too abnormal?) people who became swept up in a tide of war that engulfed their land.

Both only were swept up in it by chance, and both only stayed because of their friends.

However, there is one vital difference between them.

Aila is always there for her friends.

Pahn is not.

Specifically, he's not after General Teo is done with him, half the time.

In a duel, actually.

Actually, in a duel that amounts to rock-paper-scissors with clues thrown in.

So, the conclusion is simple.

Pahn really, really sucks at duelling. I mean, before anything else, he's just plain bad at it, period.

But hey, he won that, right? Well, sometimes. Right?

Sadly, not everyone's as stupid as Suikoden enemies in a duel. Including Suikoden PCs, actually, for the most part. As poor Pahn found out when Aila remarked "I'm going to hold back on you...for now." then blasted him with Earthquake, knocking him cold.

Pahn's decided to just make all his future battles eating contests. He sure as hell can't lose those. Right? And so, he has started his vigorous regimine of challenging people to eating contests.

His first opponent is Snorlax.

Pahn: 43

Aila and Pahn, shall we?

Pahn is much loved by the crew he's a part of. Tir trusts him, Gremio unites with him, and Cleo is the love interest of many a fanfiction.

Aila is the member of a group of drunken louts who, for the most part, hate her. She doesn't drink liquor enough for Joker, isn't hot enough for Ace, picks too many fights for Queen, and Geddoe just doesn't give a damn.

The question is not "Aila vs. Pahn" but "Will the 12th pass up this opportunity to be rid of her?"

Or, seriously, Aila's Earthquake cripples, Pahn's Boar kills.
