Season 55, Week 2
Massimo
(Mega Man X: Command Mission)

Some would look upon Steel Massimo, at his story and how he came to work with the legendary Maverick Hunter, X, and think him a gentle giant. A warrior poet whose size hides a surprising depth and grace. This is not true. Massimo, as a fighter, is about as subtle as a brick thrown into a glass house. But in this case, against the Fonist Tear, that's just fine. After all, while Tear is a healer, normally the bane of slow, hard hitting fighters like Massimo, her fonic spells take rather a long time to cast once she starts incanting them, and she lacks the ability to capitalize on Massimo's elemental weaknesses. Put it together, and this means Massimo can take his time, build up his Energy, and unleash his Action Trigger, killing Tear in a single blow. Not elegant, but Massimo never was.

Her previous run took her to the semi-finals; Tear Grants is determined to make this one last her to the title. The power to channel the Seventh Fonon is rare even on her own world - here in the RPGDL, Tear will convert "rare" to "useful," and pave the way to glory. The first roadblock, Massimo, is a sluggish monster without the necessary strength to mow down Mystearica. Her advantage in speed will see her run circles around the slow robot, giving her more than enough time to prepare and sing any of her devastating Fonic Hymns. His acclaimed and praised Hyper Mode will be useless before the powers of the Locrian Sergeant's Force Field Hymns, buying her the time to outlast the Reploid's taxing Hyper Mode, and allowing her to solidly steal victory away from him.

The usual law of RPGs states that the young "staff chick" who is the game's female lead is generally superior to the big hulking, practically plotless tank. So what's different about this fight?

Massimo is a robot. You'd be surprised how much "Being Mecha" changes the situation.
