This might seem like an uphill battle for the Gullwing: her opponent's myriad tricks include healing, status, and stat buffs, while Paine in her Warrior dressphere has... physical attacks. However, Paine isn't without options. A Twist Headband grants immunity to Momo's only dangerous status, while an Assault-powered beatdown will force Momo to heal practically every turn she gets. On top of that, the positive statuses Assult bestows nullifies Momo's edge in buffing magic. Indeed, Paine is going to teach Momo a lesson in pain that even the scatterbrained scientist won't be able to forget.

While this match seems to be a battle of brains and brawn, it wouldn't last long. Paine's physical edge lasts only until Momo casts Might and Protect, while Momo's full immunity to Breaks and Delay Buster, as well as her healing, gives her a definitive defensive advantage. Assult, Paine's one dangerous skill, has a hideous attached charge time that allows Momo to fully buff herself, weather the temporary effects of Haste and Shell, then finish the Berserked Paine off with a string of Ragnaroks. As this match will prove, brains and moderate brawn together are infinitely better than moderate brawn alone.

*One hour before the match...*
"So, Honey, you stay here, and don't mess with any of the machinery, okay?"
Momo, hearing a knock at the door of her room, turned around and opened it, to find herself face to face with a blond-haired woman in about as close to nothing as you can wear on Duelling League grounds without getting thrown out.
"Hi, my name's Rikku." "Um, he-"
"Say, I don't think you can beat Paine. Why don't you just give up?" "Wh-?"
"She's got this huge sword, and she gets really mad and punches people out when they annoy her, and has this huge metallic armor-"
"But that's il-" "-and she has all these accessories and, well, you just don't stand a chance, shouldn't you forfeit?"
Momo, puzzled by this extremely hyper woman, was about to beg off and leave(Or, failing that, simply cast Silence on her.), when another voice was heard at the door.
"Well, doesn't that beat all. You're pretty sure of your friend. Care to make a little wager on that?"
Rei, wearing a rather insolent grin, walked into the room.
"And don't you get cold dressed like that?"
Rikku was rather annoyed by the smirk, and doubly so by the fact that Momo was trying to shoulder her out of the way so she could leave.
"Of course I'll make a bet! Any bet, you name it!"
Momo, despite being well down the hall at this point, managed to hear this remark, and whipped around quickly. There was never any telling what Rei might pull...
"How about this. If Momo loses, she joins your group. If you lose, you give us your airship, the Celsius."
"WHAT!?" A massively annoyed Momo exclaimed. "I'd never be able to put up with that chatter, or....wear...those kind of clothes!" "What's wrong with my clothes?" Rikku, now even more angry, yelled.
Rei, grabbing Momo's arm, pulled her over to one side of the hall. "Listen to me. I know what I'm doing. Have I ever bet on something I wasn't sure to win?" He whispered to her. "But how can you-" "No buts. Trust me."
"We accept." Rei said to Rikku. "Fine. One year in the Gullwings bet against the Celsius. Just because I'm that sure Paine will win."
"You better have a really good plan." Momo said to Rei. "Believe me. I do."
*5 minutes before the match.*
"Where the hell is my sword?" An irate Paine exclaimed. "I left it right here, in it's sheath hanging on the wall, and now it's gone...and....where's my Garment Grid?....and...the only ones with the combination to this room's lock are the other Gullwin-....RIKKU!!!"
*10 minutes before the match.*
"What!? You're willing to give Paine the legendary sword Durandal, Athos?" A incredibly excited Rikku yelled at the top of her lungs, jerking a white-haired man over to one side of a hallway.
"SHH. Not so loud, it's not technically legal. However, we have friends in common, so I figured I might as well try to help her. However, I will need her sword as...um, security. Also, I have a Dark Knight sphere, here, if you think she needs it, so if you'd bring her Garment Grid too..."
"Sure, sure, stay right there, I'll be right back!" Rikku yelled, dashing off.
"....Doesn't that beat all. She didn't even notice the tail when it came out of the robes, when she pulled me around. I'm not sure if I'm great at this or if she's just totally oblivious."
*Two minutes after the match was schedueled to start.*
"Winner, by failure to appear....Momo, of the Grassrunner tribe!"
*Five minutes later.*
"What...do you mean...you gave my sword to Athos? He's over in another Arena right now, and has been for the last 15 minutes. Or he's in the infirmary. Either way, whoever you gave that sword and garment grid to was not Athos." Paine said calmly to Rikku.
"But....but he had white hair, and looked like him and everything, and-grmph!"
Paine effortlessly lifted Rikku up by the throat. "Listen to me. You are going to regret this for a long time. A very, very long time."
"And she hasn't even told you about the bet yet, has she?" Rei, strolling up, asked.
"Bet?" "Rhgmgph!" "Okay, I'll stop choking you. Now, bet?"
"I...um....sort of bet....um, that you would be able to win, and that Momo would have to join the Gullwings, and um." "What. Did. You bet. Against that?" "...The Celsui-RGH" "Look, Rei, can we make a deal here? It's obvious my....theoretical....friend here has some mental issues. And that you tricked her, which I can't blame you all that much for since she probably asked for it."
Momo, walking up to Paine(Who, meanwhile, was still buisily engaged in choking Rikku into unconciousness.), smiled. "I think we can make a deal here."
"So, let me get this straight. We're landbound for an indefinite period because Rikku made a stupid bet, and Momo decided not to hold her to it and instead just took the Celsius to study for as long as it takes her to figure out how to make another?....And where'd you leave Rikku?" Yuna asked.
"Oh, just some place that she won't be able to cause any trouble. And where she can maybe earn enough to get me another sword, since Rei and I decided mutually that he could keep that one as as souvinier." "So she could have to buy you another one?" "More or less."
*Two days later.*
"I...uff...just...cleaned the stands, what do I have....puff....to do now?" A tired Rikku asked.
"Well, there's still Lavos' chamber to be cleaned, most of the bathrooms still aren't scrubbed, and, oh, Zidane asked for another massage."
"I....hate...having to clean....this place..." The newest, blonde-haired member of the Duelling League cleaning staff tiredly stated...
Paine: 19
Momo: 23
