Meeplelard Jecht figured that with his manly physique, great blitz ball skills, and impressive power, he could easily win any girl over! In fact, it was true for the most part! ...the problem? That's giving Myria exactly what she wants! And anybody whose tried to be Myria's friend has regretted it in the end! Myria: 51 Barubary
superaielman As with every single one of Edge's 'good' ideas, it hatched from boredom and a certain unwise Ninja running his mouth when he shouldn't. When Zidane loudly proclaimed that he was the best at causing trouble in the league proper, he was met with some catcalls, several insults, and several thrown objects. Most however just shook their heads at the pathetic thief, seeing him reduced to such straits to somehow salvage his pride. When Edge challenged him to a contest to prove this, he eagerly accepted. To make things 'fair', Edge let Zidane use whatever or whoever he could to cause trouble, in up to four fights. Edge was restricted to one fight and could only cause whatever interference he could cause on his own. No outside help. Just his body and wits against whatever Zidane could cook up. The wise members of the Duelling League locked their doors or travelled to another dimension, in the small holes they wouldn't get sucked in. ---- Zidane's first action made for an impressive start. He agreed to have the judge of the Haschel/Jade fight taken out (That lunkhead Steiner was useful for something!) so he could ref the fight in favor of Jade. In return, the smarmy Necromancer agreed to use his talents in the best possible way to cause chaos in Emelious and Rubicant's fight. "Worthless. Emo. Pathetic. Do you know how much your family hates you? End it all, you wimp. The universe would be better off without you." Emotional abuse. Cruel. Brutal. Just the trick to undermine Emelious, who left the arena sobbing, swearing revenge against Zidane and Jade for this. Rubicant was also extremely angry with Zidane, as he wished to win the fight with honor, not resorting to such cruel mental attacks. He swore revenge against the Tantalus thief. A good start for Zidane. But he was just getting started. Rubicant: 25 superaielman Zidane's plan made a certain amount of sense. He was going to interfer with three out of four of the Godlike fights (Even he had an inkling that pissing off Myria was not worth it on pretty much any level), and pay off Jade Curtiss by interfering with his match. How would he mess with Melfice and Xorn? Mental attacks were extremely unlikely to work, with Melfice being a psychopath and Xorn being unable to even grasp the concept of sanity and insults. He had sewed up one fight with his mind (Well Jade, but who's counting?), and another with influence. Now he was going to use bribery to get the job done. Sure, spending Alexandria's entire treasury to hire out the entire Chrono Cross cast was a bit rash and likely to made Garnet a bit unhappy with him, but Zidane had a reputation to protect. And yeah, agreeing to hand himself over to Ghaleon and his minions after this was all done in exchange for Ghaleon reffing the fight and allowing random Chrono Cross invasions as a DL legal attack, but hey. Zidane would win! WIN! --- Serge and company charged into the arena and quickly took up arms, attacking both fighters at will. The endless wave of fighters would have overwhelmed almost anyone with a barest pause. "Almost" being the key word here. Melfice and Xorn were many things, but both were accounted the among the fastest Godlikes in the DL itself, specializing in MT damage. And Melfice wasn't as physically tough as Xorn, but he was next to impossible to hit with melee attacks. It was a wild scramble. Melfice dodged and evaded as fast as humanely possible while keeping most of the way of fighters away from him. He was still bleeding from head to toe from the blows, and Maken Valborg was covered from tip to tip in blood. Xorn took waves of physical attacks and ignored the pain and gaping wounds they caused, instead focusing on savagely tearing into the line of CC fighters who kept attacking. Understandably most of the focus was on the more dangerous Xorn, who kept on killing no matter how much damage was done. But not even a god could withstand limitless punishment. With a brutal critical hit from Serge, Xorn shuddered and slumped to the ground. The combined efforts of the Horn of Valmar and the slayer of the Guardians had killed two thirds of the fighters and pushed the rest into a small group in the center of the ring, next to Xorn's brualized body. Melfice had long since had his Sword broken by some of the CC members magic spells and was near death from a thousand tiny cuts and incidential blows. His Regenator had been blown away by the combined efforts of Glenn and Karsh, who had been flattened shortly thereafter by a Demon Horde slash at point blank range. Evil Horn attack kept anyone from getting too close to Melfice, but it didn't matter. He was bleeding out and had no way to heal the damage done. What was left of the Chrono Cross cast slowly moved towards Melfice, led by a battered but still dangerous Serge. With Xorn out of the way, there was nothing left to do but put Melfice down and claim their reward from Zidane. It had all gone more or less according to plan. But what was a little plan to cause trouble without a bit of spice thrown in? Zidane nimbly climbed over Riddel's body (He would find out later that Zoah had sat out of this melee because of his match this week, and had seen this and reported it to Glenn and the rest of the Dragoons. This would lead to a tremendous ass kicking from Viper, Karsh, and Dario.) and tossed a Phoenix Down on Xorn. Like the aforementioned Phoenix, Xorn rose from the ashes to his full height and loomed over the entire battlefield and began charging a Thunderclap to finish off everything in sight. A well thrown knife to the back- after all, Xorn had been revived with the tinest sliver of vitality- once again knocked Xorn out, who silently teeterted and fell forward onto the wild brawl. Only one fighter engaged in battle so much as saw the giant shadow that was crashing to earth, bringing doom to villian and hero alike. With half a dozen would be heroes tangling with him, Melfice wasn't able to do anything besides lift a battered arm up and hopefully shield at least a little of the pain- well, and rip off another midboss's line. Considering the circumstances, not a single person watching the fight could blame the Horn of Valmar for plagiary. "WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO-" *BOOM.* --- The line was good, but not good enough to let a much amused Ghaleon award the fight Xorn for squashing so many insects at once. Melfice: 17 superaielman Edge was suitably impressed, as any person who had any shreds of intelligence. Zidane had utterly wrecked three matches, pissed off at least two Godlike champions, the entire Chrono Cross crew (who weren't going to appreciate having Xorn dropped on them by the person who hired them), Garnet, Rubicant. All that and he still had his 'deal' with Ghaleon to fulfill. Everyone who was watching and tagging along during this was also suitably impressed. How could Edge top this? Zidane was so confident, and didn't at all interfere as Nate slowly beat Jade down. All he did was jeer both fighters and taunt Edge. His taunting had next to no visible effect- while Edge *was* impressed, he didn't look like a man who was worried about losing a bet. It irritated him a great deal in fact. Zidane went to go get a hold of Ghaleon to bribe him so he could beat up the smarmy Ninja Prince. To his delight, Ghaleon waived any fee and agreed crush Edge merely for the joy of it. Ghaleon did in fact completely beat Edge down- a Hell Wave followed by a physical left Edge a bleeding pool of flesh on the floor. Nate had just finished off Jade when Ghaleon had finished up slaughtering Edge. Zidane left the arena laughing, sure that Edge would be unable to match the chaos and trouble he had caused. Zidane was right. Sorta. Nate Nanjo: 24 Gatewalker The power of a True Rune. Few things in any world can hope to even survive standing against one of these emblems of primal power, much less defeat one. Especially one with as much offensive might and will to destroy as the Rune of Punishment. How unfortunate for Lazlo that defending the world from horrible magic of ultimate destruction is just one of those things that superheros do. One dramatic pre-battle speech, two Re-Al Phoenixes and one lecture on Power and Responsibility later, and Lazlo had seen the light and swore to repent of his villainous ways and fight for JUSTICE from now on. Red was rather pleased with himself on how easily that went until Jennifer reminded him that Lazlo was never actually a bad guy in the first place and his whole speech was really just preaching to the choir. Hey, even the Ultimate Superhero is allowed to have off days. Red: 27 Taishyr "...well." Citan said, looking at the piece of paper one final time. "I guess this does explain it all." "Doesn't it?" Necrosaro mused. "All the questions, answered. Every single one." Hiro shrugged. "Even seems to explain the issues Serge and his friends had with his world. Seems kinda... boring, though." "Indeed. A Grand Unified Theorem, made to explain all existence. Truly a great achievement." Citan mused. "And we owe it all to T260G and Emeralda." "Oh, really, T260G deserves the most credit." Emeralda demurred. "It was she who possessed the greater insight into the issue." "Very well. For the sake of the match, at least, we can award T260G the win, right?" Hiro suggested. "Sure. But for now, let's make sure we get this publicized. Such a revolutionary insight must not be supressed." Necrosaro mused. "Indeed, I almost feel at peace with everything, knowing this." It was at this exact point that quantum mechanics kicked in at almost-null probability, and the piece of paper turned into a coconut. T260G forgot to save his work, too. Emeralda: 18 Clear Tranquil Nobody told Cliff he would be facing a woman strikingly similar to Mirage. They’d told him what Ayla’s weakness was and what tactics to use but nobody told him what she LOOKED like. Subsequently a bemused Cliff wandered around the arena confused and unsure of what to do. He just couldn’t face beating down someone that reminded him of Mirage ... but what could he do? Unfortunately for him he wasn’t about to come to a winning decision any time soon as Ayla’s chaos inducing Iron Fist kept an already confused Cliff in a perpetual state of confusion until the end of the match. On the bright side Ayla was impressed by Cliff’s blonde good looks, blue eyes and muscley bulk. He reminded her of home “Cliff family – come!” she gestured, heading off with a baffled Cliff following behind. Cliff is currently recuperating from his loss whilst being surrounded by blonde haired blue eyed women. A village of Mirages? Heaven. Ayla: 29 Maxmagnus20019
Meeplelard So, in all of Fire Emblem, has Ike EVER once swung his sword at a female monarch? ...no? ...so what's to start him from doing it NOW? Ike might be a rude mercenary, and one to shoot his mouth off...but he still has manners damn it! Garnet til Alexandros: 24 Gatewalker The match between Menardi and Legault was a lopsided one. Not in the arena, as you might suspect, but rather in the stands. The entire cast of every Fire Emblem as well as most of the DL's thieves, scoundrels and noble rogues had shown up and were cheering on Legault, all wanting to see one of their own number knock off a former Godlike Champion here in Middle. The noise was deafening, not to mention demoralizing for the Mars Adept. Her own side of the stands were empty of course. Well, except for five people down in the front row, shouting themselves hoarse to try and cheer her on. Saturos, who she expected, along with Justin, Worker 8, Jet and Opera. This mystified her. The last time she met with those four, she lost her temper and tried to kill them. But it seems that loss records are thicker then water as her fellow Double Downgraders were here even after that, and doing their best to support her. For a brief moment she was distracted, wondering why, why they would do this? And against someone of Legault's speed, a single second of distraction can be fatal. Seeing her lapse of focus, the Hurricane moved in, his Killing Edge speeding in like some manner of bladed bullet, lodging into her gut. Thinking this was his best chance to end it, Legault braced himself and twisted the blade with all his might. The pain alone from that blow would drop any normal man, not to mention the blood loss and other wound she had taken throughout the fight. He let a smirk cross his features as he felt her beginning to fall. This was over. Well, it would have been were Menardi anything resembling normal. The pain bringing her attention back to the fight, the mars adept sank down to one knee as her right arm snapped up and clenched around the assassin's neck. Forcing herself to turn, which only twisted the blade further in her gut, she slammed Legault down onto the ground next to her and with strength born of desperation, pain and anger she crushed his throat just before the pain overtook her and she slipped into unconciousness. ---------- Regaining her consciousness the DL infirmary, Menardi's first thought was that she had the mother of all headaches, but her second was Which One Of Them Died First? She was in so much pain by the end of that match that she just didn't have enough left to ensure that Legault was well and truly dead before passing out herself. But before she could even get her mouth open to ask the nurse, a familiar voice said, "Don't worry, you got him." Opening her eyes, Menardi was faced with who were quite possibly the last people she wanted to be confronted with, the Double Downgrade Club. Looking away from Opera, the mars adept said nothing. How could she face them, after how she reacted and their continued support regardless? Whirring and clicking. Worker 8 added his own notes, "Affirmative. Hurricane Legault's life functions entered a state classifiable as clinically dead approximately 2.43..." "Spare us the numbers, Worker. Please." Grinning at Menardi, Opera gave her a thumbs up, "Hey, one more win and you get a shot at the pool. Worker and Justin both got out of Middle, I'm sure you can make it too." "Speaking of Justin, he and Saturos are out playing guard dogs in the hallway and I'd rather not leave those two alone together longer then we have to." Jet shook his head and shruged, "It's just a mater of time before he says something dumb and offends Saturos and we have another fight to worry about." Opera laughed, "Good point. Think you're recovered enough to walk out of here yet?" They weren't angry, they weren't scolding her or mocking her, they were treating her like one of them despite her rejection. Nodding, Menardi slowly pulled herself out of the infirmary bed and got to her feet, "Um, thanks. And...I..." Opera just shook her head, "Hey, don't worry about it. Let's get out of here and see about scoping out this Ulf guy. I hear he's no joke, so we'll want all the intel we can get." Menardi: 23 Cryo "Bwahahaha! You see me, Yuki!? That was so easy I didn't even break a sweat! I'm awesome!" Ulf certainly was happy after his win over the reformed bandit Yangus. So happy he almost didn't notice that Yuki and Alfina had skipped his match to watch Emelious lose to Rubicant. Almost didn't notice. He was pretty upset that his friends hadn't even come to the match. It didn't help his mood when a very attractive woman by the name of Red came to console Yangus over his loss while Ulf stood there completely deprived of any companionship whatsoever. Except maybe his dragon but that doesn't really count. If loneliness is the path to being emo, and emo is as powerful a force as Grandia 3 seems to make it out to be, has Ulf started on the road to Godlike? Only time will tell. Yangus: 15 Joou Ranbu When you have a kingdom, looks and a cool eyepatch, everything seems alright, right? Well, Bart wanted more. With a name to make for his duelling prowess, if he won a Duelling League belt, he'd surely have it all. As such, he got into this season's lineup, ready to bust physical fighters and mages alike with Wild Smile and his magic-busting whip. Too bad this strategy ran into a wall when Jean casted Death. Even with such a good strategy to disable his foes, Bart can't really deal with a spell that just kills you dead. Back to the drawing board of the Yggdrasil, it seems. Bart Fatima: 14 superaielman It's said that martial artists are wise in their old age, giving them something mentally to make up for what they've lost physically over the year Haschel has long since proven to be an exception to this rule. His actions in the fight did nothing to dispel this, as he merely prepared for a physical contest. When Zidane came trotting in as the ref, Haschel didn't even so much as plan for anything else but an honest fight. Why would a ref w ho he had never battled interfere? That made Zidane's use of Mini especially galling- well, for as long as he was alive, which was the few seconds it took for Jade to cast Meteor Swarm and bring down a mountain of rocks on his tiny head. Jade Curtiss: 19 Taishyr Mustadio came with a gun, his trusty feather mantle, and enough ammo to surpass all wars to date. Zoah came in buttpants. Mustadio conceded instantly. Zoah: 32 Taishyr Yukimaru caught the flu a few days before the match. Lucied, meanwhile, was incapacitated with a medium case of stomach pain. The two decided to send seconds to hold their match for them in an epic battle of wits and muscle. Lucied sent Anastasia Valeria. Yukimaru sent Adell. Only one made it to the arena, however; since it was not officially a match for her, Anastasia could not exit her pocket realm, leaving a much-relieved Adell to win for Yukimaru by default. Lucied: 18 Taishyr The circle of fire slammed into Jun, sending him reeling into the wall of the coliseum. As he crumpled, Red Wizard stood over his body noiselessly, before walking out of the arena. And then Lenneth's Glance Reviver slammed into the wizard's skull, pulverizing him without a thought. "Oh, good grief. Are we going to see another gang war here?" Magus grumbled, munching on some popcorn as he watched Lenneth come to blows with Knight and White Wizard. "No, no. Completely different issue." Rydia replied. "Gooooo, Lenneth!" "Ah? Pray tell, what is the situation, then?" "She's trying to make the FF1 cast into Einherjars." "... uh." "Well, she -was- Controlled by Relm beforehand." Rydia continued, quickly grabbing a handful of popcorn from Magus' bag, earning her an annoyed glare. "I mean, do you really think Relm was interested in fighting someone that boring?" "And so she's trying to disqualify him by making him an Einherjar. Cute. Also ineffective thanks to the revival techniques we have on hand." "Hey, you gotta dream big." Rydia grinned around the popcorn. Red Wizard: 42 superaielman Relm and Nina weren't evenly matched at all. Relm could heal in a fashion and had gravity rod beats at worst, and resisted Nina's magic. Hitting like a little girl kept her 'offense' in check, but not not nearly enough to prevent her from crushing Nina the third. Relm left the arena with her granddad while Ryu3 tried his best to cheer Nina up. Zidane hadn't even bothered to directly come to the arena, instead stopping to eat some lunch and listen to reports of several pissed off Godlikes that he had crossed in his mad plan. There was no way Edge was going to top him. To Zidane's amusement, the fight was already over. Ryu was gesturing rapidly to Nina, and.. there wasn't much of anyone else left in the arena. All the hangers on who had watched Zidane's blaze of glory earlier had left after they got assurances from Zidane that he had a TimeRecord spell going in the Light arena to catch whatever happened. So what if he had to sell the pendant Garnet's father gave to him for the scroll? She'd forgive him after hearing what a MAN he had been during this adventure. Eiko had read the scroll (She did know the basics of time magic after all) and cast the spell. Edge had beat him to the arena.. and it was utterly peaceful. To his tremendous shock, Edge was there- but wasn't fighting or doing anything wild, but instead playing chess with Fou-Lu (and losing, no great shock there). Zidane ambled over, sure that victory was in hand. He didn't bother to keep his voice down and began bragging about all he had accomplished. --- The sound of Zidane ranting pulled Edge's focus away from the brutal beating he was getting in Chess. He looked up, giving Zidane his time to rant. "Look at all I did. Melfice and Xorn? Crushed. I bribed Ghaleon to interfere in a battle between two demonic demigods. I hired the entire Chrono Cross cast to interfere in that fight and paid them off with Alexandria's treasury. Bwaaaaaaaahahahaha Haschel and Emelious. What did -you- do, huh?!?!?! NOTHING. You can't match me here!" Edge shrugged. "You win. You certainly caused enough trouble with all that, and summoning the Infinity Dragon and all.." Edge lept to his feet with nothing else said, and ran over to Ryu's direction. One quick shove nudged Nina into Cid's grasp, who lifted the princess up into his arms and took off as soon as he saw Edge pushing Ryu towards Fou-Lu. Another shove from Edge pushed Ryu towards Fou, who was waiting and looking slightly bored by all this. Edge whispered into Ryu's ear, earning a shrug from the Brood's strongest fighter. All Zidane heard was "It's worth a shot." Apparently it worth a shot, as, Ryu held out his hand towards Fou-Lu who silently got up and took Ryu's hand. A blinding flash of light filled the arena, along with a rumbling sound that seemed to make the entire universe shake. Edge shook his head in wonder at the sight before him. While Ryu the fourth was insanely powerful beyond all words and reason, he still was no match for the Ryu the third, owner of the Brood genes. The Infinity Dragon reared up and roared, his head brushing the top of the arena. Only one comment seemed to be appropriate here. "Huh. It worked." Edge then shrugged at Zidane. "I was going to just beat you up and say that all of your trouble was self inflicted and didn't count, but then you sicced Ghaleon on me. Not nice. Anywho, enjoy dealing with the Infinity Dragon+5 and Ghaleon and.. well whoever else you crossed during all... huh?" The rumbling had stopped. Edge spun around and saw Ryu and Fou-Lu on the ground, out cold. "Maybe it wasn't stable.. definitely was worth a shot. Though... damnit.. this means that you won Zidane. Congratulations are in order. You are in fact better at causing trouble than I am. Even if it was self inflicted and you pretty much pissed everyone else off in the DLverse, you won." Edge walked out, not noticing that Zidane had not in fact responded. === It took several weeks and an army of healers to snap him out of his trance state, and he still had to 'pay' Ghaleon back. Zidane of course remembered nothing, but hey, apparently he had beat Edge at something! He would've been happier if he hadn't spent the entire rest of the season taking beatings from everyone he annoyed, but no one said victory came at a small price! Nina Wyndia: 22 Jo\'ou Ranbu
