Week 4 - Quarterfinals

Ryu (BoF3) Ryu vs False Althena False Althena (Lunar2)

Taishyr
There are many delicacies that a goddess gets to try, many strange and exotic foods that False Athena got to sample.

Clearly convinced that today would be her chance to try a new one, she proceeded to pump Ryu full of voltage until he was well and truly fried, before being gravely notified that, yes, this was her fight, and no, she couldn't eat him. While disappointed that charred newt- er, drake wasn't on the menu, apparently she is on record as saying that she wants to sample "battered bat" next week.

Orlandu, Cidolfas (FFT) Orlandu, Cidolfas vs Brahms Brahms (VPs)

SageAcrin
A horrific struggle.

Orlandu, desperately draining what little bits of energy he can manage, while Brahm pummels him with all his might. Orlandu, blocking desperately, trying to live thr-

Oh.

Bloody Curse hit turn one.

Well then.

Edge Eblan (FF4) Edge Eblan vs Kasumi Kasumi (Suikos)

khaki_knight
"So," Yuri asked, as he plopped onto the couch across from Edge, "Was it worth it?"

Edge, calmly cleaning and oiling his weapons, didn't look up. "Which part? The part where I let her hit me with a shrike powered suplex so I could cop a feel? Yes it was, even if it took me a few minutes to remove my head from the arena floor."

Smirking, Yuri shook his head. "No, no, I'm talking about how after Kasumi fled the arena in horror, the McDohl kid jumped in from nowhere and launched four consecutive Judgments on you."

Edge frowned as he sharpened one of his shuriken. "Well, you know, those Judgment spells are a little overrated -- you don't even really FEEL the second one and--"

Yuri waved off Edge's point with a free hand. "And even so, the kid would still probably be wailing on you with that staff of his if that guy in the green cloak hadn't pulled him off you."

Yuri leaned forward. "Not to mention how all the ninjas in Rokkaku are even now still hunting you."

And here the two froze for a moment, as they heard a sound. Yes, the undisclosed location they were meeting at was a highly guarded secret of the perverts of the league... but it wasn't like ninjas didn't make a habit of ferreting out secrets.

After a moment, both of them visibly relaxed, as the expected swarm of ninjas never materialized. Edge resumed his work. "And it's not the entire village," he protested sulkily. "I know for a fact that they aren't sending the children and the elderly."

The expression on Yuri's face displayed how much difference that made in his opinion. "At any rate," Yuri finished, leaning back again "was all THAT worth it?"

At this Edge finally looked up from what he had been doing. He grinned. "YES."

Kasumi: 18

Lyon (S5) Lyon vs Rayquaza Rayquaza (PKMN)

SageAcrin
A powerful rune embodying the power of the setting sun.

Rayquaza.

A being that lives in a world with no setting sun for some reason. Oh, sure, other Pokemon areas may have night and day, but not his.

...

Say, have you ever read that story Nightfall?

Rayquaza ultimately did do a huge amount of damage when the arena suddenly fell into night, but in his frenzy, not a lot of it was to Lyon, and he was out of the ring pretty fast, overall.

The initial reaction was psychiatric therapy, but screw that, someone will just fetchquest him a potion to fix this. Too much effort for anything else.

Lyon: 20
Rayquaza: 19

Miakis (S5) Miakis vs Elly van Houten Elly van Houten (XG)

SageAcrin
Two beautiful women.

Baring it all on the battlefield!

---

"And, really, why the hell is Fei so dense? I mean, I took a shower in a clear glass tube in front of him! And it took him that long to show any real interest in me, and after saving my life, he still won't really pay any attention to me, and...and..." Elly sputtered.

"Okay, I'm done here." Miakis muttered, walking out in disgust.

Well, perhaps a contest to see who can bare their emotions, and their very soul, better, was a little tacky.

But hey, it did keep the perverts away. Something can be said for that.

Miakis: 15
Elly van Houten: 30

Dekar (Lufia2) Dekar vs Massimo Massimo (MMXCM)

khaki_knight

When Massimo finally struggled out of the arena, he was battered and sparking, leaving bits of broken armor and servos in his wake behind him.

But even in that state, Massimo was still a slight better off than the ruinous mess of his opponent back in the arena (a mess that the league medics are STILL trying to piece back together into something resembling Dekar).

For what chance did Dekar's puny flesh have against Massimo's unyielding steel?

THE MORAL OF THE STORY: Never bring an axe to an axe fight... er, if the other axe is being wielded by a super powerful robot from the future... or something.

Dekar: 13
Massimo: 24

Opera Vectra (SO2) Opera Vectra vs Zhuzhen Liu Zhuzhen Liu (SH1)

Taishyr
"So." Yuri said, sitting down next to Zhuzhen at the bar. "Lost the fight."

"Yup."

"She's a tough opponent for a lot of people, so it doesn't surprise me. But I thought you had a foolproof plan, what with Bunnythulhu."

"She called in support from her spaceship. Apparently it works like Midgar Cid's attack; if it doesn't stick around and she doesn't board it, it's not interference."

"But Bunnythulhu's near invincible, isn't it?" Yuri raised an eyebrow.

"Not when they beam it up to their spaceship." Zhuzhen muttered.

"Ah." Yuri shrugged, lifting a mug. "To next time. Cheers?"

"I'm being stuck with the bill of damages to her ship."

"...... man, harsh."

"Slavery for fifteen years to pay that off?" Zhuzhen noted. "Cheers, indeed."

Opera Vectra: 38
Zhuzhen Liu: 11

Cinnamon (MMXCM) Cinnamon vs Colette Brunel Colette Brunel (ToS)

SageAcrin
Cinnamon had studied her opponent.

She knew her advantages at Colette's own game.

Sure, Colette just apparently tripped on things and either they exploded or she did. Appeared. But that would be ridiculous. It had to be on purpose, a dangerous, double-edged gambit.

But Cinnamon had an advantage.

Weight. Robots are much heavier than simple flesh.

And so, Colette was tripped on by a large chunk of girly metal.

Really, there was only one problem for Cinnamon here.

She forgot she was the generic healer girl, not the strategist.

As Colette fell, she naturally blew a hole in the arena floor, sending both of them plummeting down several hundred feet down an old, sealed manhole, into the sewers.

Well, it's still a win. Colette left the arena first.

But at what price?

I mean, those silly nurse uniforms can't be easy to clean that out of.

Colette Brunel: 12
