Week 4 - Quarterfinals

Orlandu, Cidolfas (FFT) Orlandu, Cidolfas vs Ash Lambert Ash Lambert (VH)

Kanos
Orlandu is one of the most broken characters ever made for an RPG. He's insanely fast, insanely strong, has break techniques, has leech techniques, and is pretty durable.

A pity he runs into Ash, who, while being slower, is even stronger, is immune to Orlandu's break techs, is much more durable to the point where the leech attack will hardly harm him, and has an infinite supply of every item and spell in Vandal Hearts at his disposal, giving him immortality in the face of Orlandu's inability to kill him in one or even two hits. Looks like T.G. Cid's run through godlike is about to hit a brick wall.

Orlandu, Cidolfas: 11
Ash Lambert: 28

Timenoise
TG Cid, is powerful in the FFT world, but Ash Lambert as the Vandalier has never been toppled by anyone in the Vandal Hearts world.

His magic spells and items he has access to (Life Orb in particular, an item he has an infinite amount of access to), will ensure victory for him.

cwazymammal@hotmail.com
Orlandu opens up the battle with a Holy Explosion, an attack that's able to fell PCs with a single blow.

Ash, who was strong enough to live through a couple of Plasma Waves in his game node, calmly walks through the Holy Explosion and pokes Orlandu with the Vandal Heart.

Fenris
On the surface Orlandu and Ash are pretty similar, being that they are both widely recognized as frighteningly overpowered in their own games. But when you look deeper, Orlandu just makes his game really easy. Ash, however, makes his game capable of being beaten by an iguana.

Royce (Lunar1) Royce vs Kefka Kefka (FF6)

Dunefar
As bosses, both of this superb warriors are limited to their damaging moves, most of their tricks nulled. Shot Lancer versus Havoc Wing...

Oh, wait. Kefka can double act. Ouch. And he can counter with Hyperblaster. *Wince* Sorry, Royce.

Royce: 13
Kefka: 28

Cecilia Lyne Adelhyde (WA) Cecilia Lyne Adelhyde vs Tidus Tidus (FFX)

Meeplelard
Cecilia went into this match confindent. She had to do the same to Tidus as she did to Auron, and especially easier since Tidus has lower magic defense...

Except she forgot one small aspect: Prison doesn't work when your put to sleep. Tidus' nice little sleep strike weapon will make sure Cecilia doesn't get the turn she needs to use Prison.

Cecilia Lyne Adelhyde: 19
Tidus: 24

Hunter Sopko
Cecelia teaches Tidus the value of laying off the blitzbong before matches.

Reno (FF7) Reno vs Scias Scias (BoF4)

Murphix
Scias had been training very hard for this match-very hard indeed. He had spent days at his favorite spot, honing his skills until he knew he was a master. He was ready to show the fruits of his labors. That's right; several tons of fish.

He traded in his enourmous catch to the local Manillo, who happily gave him the mighty Render sword.

He also took up an spprenticship with Kryrik, knowing that his Finale will ability could be very handy indeed. Finally, a Light Bangle completed his strategic plan, and he set forth to the arena, knowing that he might need to use all his skill for this match.

Meanwhile, Reno had been trying to mack it up with Nina III. "No hard feelings, right babe?"

Scias did a little homework, and after watching Reno's previous battle with Nina, he decided to take a page from the Turk's book.

The day of the match arrived. Reno strutted out into the arena, and Scias did his usual glide.

"Ready to lose, shaggy?"
"B-b-bring it."

Immediately, Scias performed his Ice Blast spell which, in a brilliant stroke of irony, imprisons Reno within it. But Scias knew he could not maintain the ice for long. With the mighty Render sword adding an extra attack to his arsenal, Shining Blade becomes extra nasty. Ice Blast is called off after this attack, as it is quite a strain on AP to continue a spell for that long.

Reno, now on his knees and near blacking out, sees his one opportunity to strike. Scias too is a bit winded from the mental strain of such powerful abilities, and is still in a crouching position next to him. He readies the Turk Taser, and as he reaches for the Ronin's body, Scias remembers his master's teachings and deals the Finale blow, effectively ending the match.

Reno: 17
Scias: 24

Nina Wyndia (BoF2) Nina Wyndia vs Kanon Kanon (WA2)

Meeplelard
And Death claims victumn number 7 in a row. This just proves that no matter how boring or how cheap a move is, if it works, it works, and Nina doesn't care either way.

Nina Wyndia: 20
Kanon: 14

Genocide Heart
Nina casts Death. Death fizzles against Kanon's boss form. Kanon proceeds to pound Nina in the ground.

Robo (CT) Robo vs Ayame Ayame (S3)

superaielman
Remember what happened the last time Robo tried to fight a Ninja? While Ayame isn't as nasty a fighter as Edge, she still has trademark Ninja speed and damage, which is enough to overwhelm Robo.

Robo: 18
Ayame: 19

Murphix
Ayame opens with a bevy of ninja stars, all of which stick to Robo. But he doesn't seem to mind; none of damaged his electric core. Robo sees his opponents confusion to unleash an Uzzi Punch, which Ayame deftly dodges thanks to her rank S Dodge skill. She knows she has to get up close and personal with this opponent, and readies her Shrike rune. Robo never saw it coming.

But Ayame should have studied up on her basic science. As her claws plunged deep into Robo's wiring, several short circuits occurred, directing most of Robo's current into Ayame via her ninja claw. His short circuitry makes him think that Shock would be the best course of action at this point, and Ayame is barbeuqued.

Robo's intense damage does cause some malfunctions. He responded to the cheers of the crowd with a song:
"My name is Robo
I have metal joints,
Beat me up
and earn Silver Points!"

Lucca rushed into the scene just in time to deactivate Robo for maintenance, as he was about to break into "Rhinestone Cow-bot," much to the horror of the fans.

Meeplelard
Its odd how a Robot has more trouble beating a little Cleric with no battle experience than a full hardened Ninja with a powerful Rune. Doesn't RPG Logic confoud you? I don't know what's a bigger suprise: The above fact I mentioned or the fact that Robo's circuits haven't shorted out from the lack of logic this match contains.

Virginia Maxwell (WA3) Virginia Maxwell vs Reis Dular Reis Dular (FFT)

El Cideon
Virginia wasn't taking any chances with a return to Middle on the line. She did her research before coming to the match, and knew her opponent would most likely show up in dragon form. Dragons are easy enough to deal with, given a little foresight: a few hundred gella discreetly slipped to the judges to smooth over the questionable legality of her Fire medium and flame protection buys her an easy win, right?

Wrong. Imagine Virginia's surprise when Reis smacks her with ice instead--or, rather, imagine her surprise when she thaws out.

Virginia Maxwell: 16
Reis Dular: 17

Great... now where were we?

Well, after a few gatlings, Reis will most likely be seeing stars. It doesn't help matters that Virginia is one of the speediest regular characters in her game and protected by an incredibly annoying amount of Evasion. And so the Derringers help to win the day once again. Have pity on those who need to hit Virginia physically...

Cai (Brig) Cai vs Gijimu Gijimu (S2)

superaielman
Cai's main issues in a duel are running out of MP, and nasty physical fighters. Light doesn't have many that can do either to the Silent Wise King, but Gijimu is one. Double Beat spells the end for Cai.

Cai: 5
Gijimu: 21

Macbeth
I have a question regarding a Brigandine spell: Flight. Specifically, how high does it go in a duel? If it is indeed high, this could signal a move up in the rankings for Cai.

Clash of the Titans: Battle Two
Photon Power vs. Getter Rays!
VS
~Kanos

Nephrite
The battle raged on and on, neither team giving up to the other.

The Mazinger-Z, the Castle of Black Iron, was missing one arm, half it's chest-plate destroyed, the Pilder, which contained Kouji himself had been cracked, Kouji himself bleeding from the eyes.

The Getter Robo wasn't fairing much better. It had one arm gone, not to mention the fact that it had lost the ability to transform not far into the battle after hit with a strong attack.

"This is it, I'm going to give you my last shot, Ryouma!" Kouji shouted from his cockpit.

"Fine, Kouji! Let's see what you can do!" Ryouma shouted back.

The Mazinger raised it's arm up and fired the last Rocket Punch it had.

Unforetunately, it ran out of power on it's way, and fell to the ground before it even reached the Getter Robo.

"...God -damnit-." Kouji muttered.

"...It looks like this is our win, Kouji." Hayato stated. "...Yeah, yeah. You guys win. I'm going to go fix up Z." Kouji grumbled. The Getter team escorted Kouji and the Mazinger back to the Photon Power labs, both teams having felt they had won, because of the power of burning friendship.

Getter Robo: 8
